After the end of World War II, thousands of Nazi war criminals hid from justice and in many cases wanted to leave Europe as soon as possible. Their first steps led mostly to Italy. From there, often with the strange connection of support organizations of former members of the SS and German church circles in Rome, they went mainly to South America.
