In the summer of 1917, the artist Toomas Haava comes to his brother's farm to recover from a war trauma and inadvertently entangles himself in a conflict with the violent Madjak, who is harassing the local girl Hilda. Toomas gets rid of the nightmare of fighting in Madjak.
